| The Glider Colony Throughout the late 1990’s and into the early 2000’s these teacup sized marsupials from Down Under have quickly become America’s latest “pocket pet”. People are drawn to the glider’s cuddly appearance and often overlook the long term commitment and dedication that is needed for the care of these animals. All too often potential owners neglect to research the glider’s specialized diet, housing and veterinary needs before bringing them home. Also, most people don’t realize that the glider’s life expectancy is 10-14 years much like a large breed dog rather than a hamster. These animals are extremely social and bond to family members. They do not flourish when relegated to sad, neglected lives in small cages.
Over the years we have rescued and fostered a number of Sugar Gliders. Today, the Center is a permanent home to a colony of twenty gliders. Click on the thumbnails below to view some of their photos.
